Maria Forsström is much appreciated for her soulful Mahler interpretations and her extremely intelligent musicianship, being equally at ease in a Lieder recital as on the opera stage. Her coloratura and deep knowledge about style and source reading makes her the ideal Baroque singer, as well as an interpreter of the late Romantic and modern composers. Her vast repertoire spans a wide spectrum of musical styles from virtuoso Baroque to Mahler , Verdi and Britten, and includes all the standard alto orchestra, lieder, oratorio and opera pieces, such as Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody and the St. Matthew Passion, which she has performed several times to great critical acclaim.
She has sung with Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Warszaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra NOSPR, Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra NFM, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Musica Aeterna, Russia; with the Helsinki National Opera, Perm State Opera under Teodor Currentzis, Michailovskytheatre in St. Petersburg, Novaya Opera, Moscow under the batons of Edward Gardner, Stefan Solyom, Mikko Franck, B Tommy Andersson, Kentaro Kawase, Rory McDonald, Teodor Currentzis and Jacek Kaspszyk.
Her portrait CD, "Kaleidoscope" on the label Musica Rediviva was released in April 2011, presenting songs from the Baroque, Lieder, Rachmaninov, Ravel and Scandinavian song and was elected "Record of the Month" by MusicWeb International in September 2011. Maria’s debut recording, ”Mahler Songs”, was issued for the Mahler Jubilee in 2010, with transcriptions for symphonic organ and voice.
